Zornitsa Stoyanova of Herebegin Dance to present Paper Duchess

On Saturday, May 26th, 2012 at 8 p.m., Zornitsa Stoyanova, director of Herebegin Dance will perform her new solo Paper Duchess as part of Mixed Grille Performance Series hosted at PARD SPACE on 1720 Mt.Vernon St. in Philadelphia.

Paper Duchess premiered at Falls Bridge Festival in January 2012, presented in the same bill with work from internationally renowned Ishmael Houston- Jones and Yvonne Meyer.  In late June, Zornitsa will be teaching and presenting the solo at Wanted Festival in Rennes France.

Paper Duchess explores images of formality vs. casualness, tied to communication though gesture, form, emotional content and image. Starting with an image of magical theatricality, a floating paper amoeba in the space that slowly comes into focus and starts talking through gesture, Zornitsa presents ways of deconstructing communication and attempts to translate, internal and external narratives through the body.

Other artists performing the same night are:  Marion Ramirez, Gina Hoch-Stall and Alie Vidich / Movement Brigade

Mixed Grille is a forum for artists to showcase their creative voice through movement. Our goal is to serve as an incubator for both completed pieces and works-in-progress, as well as to create a platform for emerging talents in dance and the movement arts. Mixed Grille values the creative process and is dedicated to the creation and investigation of movement.

Zornitsa Stoyanova is primarily a choreographer, improviser, and dancer, who also does lighting, graphic design, works with video and sound, and is heavily influenced by visual art.

Herebegin Dance is the performance and production project of experimental movement artist Zornitsa Stoyanova.

Often times theatrical, Zornitsa’s collaborations explore nonlinear stories, movement invention, spoken word, and object installation. She is equally interested in making set performances, as well as structured improvisations. Visual art is a big inspiration to Zornitsa and is sometimes a reason for a creation of a new piece.
