The Rock School’s Spin On A Ballet Tradition

In a world full of split-second changes, certain traditions offer constancy and comfort during the holiday season.

After Thanksgiving, curtains will start to rise on the classic Nutcracker ballet across the country. As each company adds its own style and signature to this wintertime favorite, The Rock School for Dance Education will stage a “new tradition” at the Merriam Theater at the University of the Arts.

“It is a Revolutionary-period, Philadelphia-based “Nutcracker” tale with a new story – a fresh but traditional ballet in the first act and all the grandeur and spectacle of the Land of Sweets in the second act,” said Rachel Ward, the school’s communications coordinator. “A more subtle but also unique aspect is that this is an all-new, concise Nutcracker choreographed for the entertainment of the whole family, including both children and adults.”

The hour-long ballet, designed for families with children of all ages, has a cast of more than 150 children.  READ MORE…
