Gas House Dance Hall Milonga
June 29 @ 8:00 am - June 30 @ 1:00 am$15.00
Tango is a social, improvised dance that began in Buenos Aires, Argentina more than a century ago and is now danced around the world! A milonga is what we call a party where we dance tango for fun (classes and practicas are where we dance tango to learn it). We were astounded by the support and welcome from long time local tangueros at the genesis of this milonga at the Gas House Dance Hall so here we are again for another spin! Guest DJ, Kerry Kay will be dazzling us with her music all evening long. Every time I get to talk with Kerry, my whole day brightens. Her music reflects her remarkable appreciation for life and I can’t wait for you to dance to it! Lastly, we have purchased some delightful delectables to be consumed at adjoining Blocker’s Coffeehouse during the milonga! Kiffles, cannolis, & coffee at tango?! What more could you want?!
8-9pm All levels lesson – we welcome brand new beginners who are curious to check out what this tango thing is all about!
9-1am social dancing
& then dancing until we have to kick you out at 1AM this time – a whole hour longer than last time, by your request! 😉
To be a part of creating the bliss of a milonga, please abide by proper tango etiquette:
Respect the line of dance as the harmonious flow of traffic by entering with permission (confirmed eye contact) from a dancing leader, refrain from passing other dancing couples, and do please apologize should you accidentally bump into someone.
If a dancer says “thank you” before the tanda (set of 3 or 4 songs) ends, that means the dance has ended and the “thank you” must be respected. If the dance was so spectacular that feelings of gratitude are present but a dancer would like to continue dancing, it is encouraged to share a compliment instead of a “thank you”!
