NO)E(XIT)N-TRANCE: inter-terrestrial sightings – a new multi media dance theater work directed by Manfred Fischbeck, created in collaboration with Nick Jushchyshyn, Westphal’s Program Director for Animation & Visual Effects (video and motion capture)NO)E(XIT)N-TRANCE utilizes motion capture video, movement and music to investigate the effect of being mentally, physically, or emotionally enclosed in a controlled environment. This new work seeks answers to the question: How does being physically or metaphorically stuck in one place for a long time create potential for beyond normal human interactions with self and others?

Director Manfred Fischbeck explains: “This dance theater/video play begins where Sartre’s play No Exit ends- with the last words, ‘let’s get on with it.’ Three people find themselves on a seemingly endless journey of  imprisonment until they enter a  ‘wormhole’, a trance state of expanded perception through which they discover new forms of existence.”

The premier of this piece is seen as a work in progress, and the audience is invited to a feedback session immediately following each performance to help with further development of the work.

Special thanks to Drexel’s Westphal College of Media Arts and Design and Miriam Giguere (Department Head, Performing Arts) for their support in making the Black Box Theater and the URBN Center facilities available for this project.

Group Motion observes and expresses the human experience through movement, seeing dance as a universally accessible language. Our mission is to promote dance and movement as vehicles for personal and artistic expression, education, transformation and collaboration. This mission manifests through the following mediums: a professional modern dance company dedicated to the exploration and performance of multi media dance theater, ongoing improvisational movement workshops for the public, classes, and educational outreach, exchange with other local, national and international artists, and bi-annual platforms to create and present new work for established and emerging professional artists (Spiel Uhr) and for community members (Performance Project).
