Performance Garage Announces HubChat 2022, Aug. 24

The Performance Garage presents HubChat 2022: DanceVisions Artist-in-Residence yaTande Whitney V. Hunter and Jude Sandy on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 6 p.m.

The Performance Garage HubChat series are curated conversations exploring topics central to dance practitioners, creators and audience members. Panel discussions review subjects about specific initiatives and upcoming creative dance projects in Philadelphia and beyond. This upcoming HubChat explores “Collaborative Relations: Working Through Black Art and Black Love”, led by yaTande Whitney V. Hunter and Jude Sandy. The panel will be moderated by the Performance Garage’s own Program and Marketing Manager, Norma Porter, where she will provide questions about the research and creation process of their DanceVisions project, Walk The (pink) Elephant.

Walk The (pink) Elephant is an evening-length exploration of absence and a ritual of reckoning, regeneration, defiance, and celebration in the face of cataclysmic loss. Additional topics to be discussed include, but are not limited to: relationship building through the art process, art as activism, as well as others informed by the theme and message of the (pink) Elephant work.

Dance/performance artist yaTande Whitney V. Hunter and theatre/movement artist Jude Sandy have named their creative entity Denizen Arts which represents their creative partnership and projects. Walk The (pink) Elephant is a multidisciplinary collaborative performance project informed by cultural and art-making practices of African diaspora, queer and other global

identities. Denizen Arts seeks to create new works and foster communal discourse on both historic and urgent complexities of human experience.

This HubChat is followed by an Open Rehearsal on September 7th at 6 pm. On September 15th, the Performance Garage is pleased to present the premiere of Walk The (pink) Elephant as part of the Performance Garage’s yearly presentation of their selected DanceVisions Resident Artist. All events are held at the Performance Garage.

This program has been made possible by a leadership grant from Independence Blue Cross (IBX), a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, and individual donors.
