Philadelphia Dance Day is BACK! This nonprofit community event has brought hundreds of people out to dance in past years, and 2022 marks their 13th annual celebration! After a day filled with free dance workshops, the festival culminates with an evening showcase featuring routines performed by local instructors, student groups, and semi-professional dancers.
All dance enthusiasts – regardless of experience or even coordination – are invited to take part in the fun on July 30, 2022. There will be something for everyone, from lyrical to hip-hop. Community members are invited to sample as many free workshops as they like throughout the day, which will be held at Markward Park (400 S. Taney St.) and the Philly Dance Fitness studio in Rittenhouse (1923 Chestnut St.). No need to pre-register, just show up ready to dance! Daytime workshops are free and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
The festivities continue with a hallmark evening showcase at Plays & Players Theatre (1714 Delancey Place) where you’ll be treated to a myriad of styles from ballet to Bollywood. Doors at 7 p.m., show starts at 7:30 p.m. A one-time $5-10 donation is requested for the evening showcase, which includes post-performance refreshments.
Philly Dance Fitness, an independent company based in Center City, began organizing the nonprofit Dance Day festival in 2010. With the help of dozens of volunteers, past years’ events have brought more than 500 people together to celebrate dance as a powerful platform for creative expression and physical activity.
