Get What You Need (GWYN)2021-2022 residency dance artists Julia Bryck and Lindsey Huster are presenting their final performances on July 15 and 16 at 8:00 pm at Fidget Space. The event will be available for live online viewing as well. Tickets: $7-$25 Sliding scale, no one turned away for lack of funds
Bryck’s work, The Department, explores her ten months working in a call center assisting North Carolinians with SNAP (food stamp) applications. The performance investigates the exhaustion of maintaining bureaucratic red tape and the vulnerability in asking for help. Bryck conjures a surreal world full of lights (actual lamps), shadows, and crippling but familiar roadblocks.
In Huster’s piece, we look away, Huster documented the visible roadkill of West Philadelphia over six months. Through this work, Huster rejects the notion of human exceptionalism and instead invites audience members to open themselves to the grief of human impact on the ecological landscape.
Get What You Need (GWYN) is an 8-month-long support residency for two Philadelphia-based performance artists per year. Initiated by choreographer Zornitsa Stoyanova, GWYN has been running for 7 years. Presently the residency consists of a consortium of artist professionals, creatives, and collaborative partners Zornitsa Stoyanova, Keila Cordova, Janna Meiring, and Kenwyn Samuel. GWYN is a platform initiated and organized by BodyMeld – new dance platform. www.bodymeld.org
GWYN-tastic final showing is made possible with the support of Penn Treaty Special Services District.
