The Lady Hoofers Tap Ensemble 10th Anniversary Gala, May 7th

On Saturday, May 7, 2022, The Lady Hoofers Tap Ensemble will celebrate a decade of producing original works while also preserving the tradition of improvisation in American rhythm tap, bringing innovative percussive dance to diverse audiences. The Ensemble’s 10th Anniversary Gala will take place at Pen Ryn’s River’s Edge Pavilion in Bensalem, PA. The event will include dinner, drinks, dancing, live music, and the premiere of three new works in addition to an auction of donated goods and services to support the ensemble’s work.

“We got our start with a revue in the Philadelphia Fringe in 2011,” recalls Artistic Director Kat Echevarría Richter. “My dad built a small stage for us, and we broke even by just $11, but we sold out both shows and knew we had something.” Since then, The Lady Hoofers Tap Ensemble has grown into a full-fledged non-profit organization, complete with a Board of Directors, six part-time staff members, and a company of approximately 35 professional and pre-professional dancers from PA, NJ, and DE. Programming includes performance, mentorship, and community outreach, with two mainstage productions each year in addition to free community performances, a residency in North Philly, and master classes with renowned tap dancers.

“The past two years have been difficult for arts organizations,” explains the company’s Managing Director, Katie Budris, “but we’ve kept moving. We debuted our critically acclaimed #HoofersAtHome series, returned to the Suzanne Roberts Theatre with our annual production of THE TAPCRACKER in December and commissioned a new work by Lisa La Touche. Now, after ten years, we are ready to celebrate.”

The 10th Anniversary Gala will include the premiere of LaTouche’s piece, in addition to a new Charleston number choreographed by Richter, and a duet performed by the directors. Guests will also enjoy performances by the Ensemble’s Apprentice dancers, plenty of improvisation, and live jazz under the direction James Santangelo. Subsidized tickets for artists and low-income attendees are available for $75; standard tickets are $125; reserved seating is available for $250. All tickets include top shelf open bar and dinner, plus dancing. Sponsorship opportunities, including premium reserved tables, are also available, and the event is family friendly with discounted tickets for children.

Held at Pen Ryn’s River’s Edge Pavilion, the 10th Anniversary Gala will overlook the Delaware River. The tented structure will ensure that guests can gather safely with plenty of fresh air but no threat of rain. “We can’t wait to bring everyone together again,” says Budris, noting how many Lady Hoofer alums, local dancers, and longtime supporters are planning to return for the event. “The venue is gorgeous, and we’re excited to share everything we’ve been working on.”
