Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers 14th Spring Home Season, April 8-9

The world renowned Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers (KYL/D), announce its 14th Spring Home Season performances at The Suzanne Roberts Theatre on Philadelphia’s Avenue of the Arts on Friday, April 8 @7:30pm and Saturday, April 9 @2:30pm and 7:30 pm. A livestream of the Saturday evening show will be available.

Drawing upon Eastern philosophies while expanding the perimeter of contemporary dance, Artistic Director Kun-Yang Lin’s zen-inspired practice of dance manifests in lush works of poetic sensibility.

As our world emerges from the challenges of the last two years, OceanWaves (World Premiere), reflects on this unique moment in history. The concert and the new world premiere signifies founding Artistic Director Kun-Yang Lin’s 106th work and the last KYL/D concert that will feature exclusively his choreography.

The concert, Moving Reflections on the Environment and Humankind, includes three stunning works ranging from a piece created just before the pandemic, Spring 101 (2019), to a work spanning the pandemic, Fish & Girl (2019-2022), to the world premiere OceanWaves (2022).

Spring 101 is derived from a chance method of selected Baroque music infused with new meaning. Fish & Girl responds to an unfinished poem by renowned Singaporean poet Pan Cheng Lui, concerning contemporary life and climate change. The work was performed in Singapore but never had its US premiere due to the pandemic. Lin’s latest ensemble work, OceanWaves, created during the pandemic, is driven from the question, “how can we work together and support one another at this particular time?”.

This visually impactful, highly spiritual concert with KYL/D celebrates the power and aliveness in all of us at the beautiful Suzanne Roberts Theatre on Ave of the Arts or from the comfort of your own home via live stream.

KYL/D’s 2022 Spring Season has been made possible, in part, by the generosity of cherished friends and transformative supporters Ellen Schwartz and Jeremy Seigel. Lin dedicates these performances in honor of their support.

The KYL/D ensemble consists of 10 dance artists: Evalina Carbonell, Weiwei Ma, Grace Stern, Keila Pérez-Vega, Sophie Malin, Ariel Isakowitz, Dominick Brown, Jamaal Bowman, Marcel Santiago Marcelino and Shiyu Wang.

Lighting design and stage management by Alyssandra Docherty, Costume design by Jill Peterson and Sound design by Cory Neale.
