Philadelphia Piazzolla Festival - Andres Amarilla + Meredith Klein

Philadelphia Argentine Tango School presents the Philadelphia Piazzolla Festival, July 11-20

Above all other composers, Astor Piazzolla revolutionized tango music and brought it to the modern world stage. Raised in two cultures—Argentina and the U.S.—Piazzolla also had a unique ability to move between musical styles and forge new connections.  He created a new style of tango by fusing tango music with elements from jazz, classical music, and other genres. He made it accessible to and compelling for listeners around the world.

From July 11 to 20, the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School will present a festival to celebrate Astor Piazzolla’s centennial.  (Piazzolla was born on March 11, 1921.)  Initially conceived as a music festival, they have added dance events as the pandemic situation has improved.  The festival takes place at four gorgeous venues, two of which are outdoors.  Additionally, there are virtual events held through Zoom.

Festival headliners will include Horacio Romo on bandoneón, Pablo Agri on violin, and Emiliano Messiez on piano.
