Choreographers Megan Bridge and Rachel DeForrest Repinz present Altered Tastes, a shared evening of dance that will stream on November 6, 2020 at 7pm EST. Tickets are free but registration is required at http://bit.ly/altered-tastes.
Originally slated to premiere live in Conwell Dance Theater on Temple University’s campus in Philadelphia this fall, each of the artists have reimagined their capstone projects in alternate spaces and for film. Boyer College of Music & Dance will broadcast the two works followed by an artist talk back. The choreographers will complete their degrees with a Master of Fine Arts in Dance later this year.
Megan Bridge’s The Alt.terre includes dance, music, video design, and architectural lighting to construct an uncanny world. Performers dance along the line where deeply embodied movement practices tip into alternate states of consciousness. Collaborators: Peter Price (music, video projections) Patricia Dominguez (costumes). Performed by: Meghan Frederick, Tatawuur Luna El, Rachel DeForrest Repinz, and Mijka Smith. Megan Bridge is the co-director of Fidget, an experimental performance company and warehouse arts space in Kensington, Philadelphia.
Rachel DeForrest Repinz’s ALL YOU CAN EAT! is an interdisciplinary exploration into mealtime traditions and their relationship to community and the individual. This work pulls from several reemerging ideas: mealtimes and eating, gesture, repeated routines, ephemerality, intimacy, and community/relationship building. Using movement, we dissect how these relationships and routines are both impermanent and perpetual. Together, we explore how mealtime rituals and relationships are essential to the human condition, both as an act of survival and intimate shared experience. The work is danced by Megan Bridge, Wren “Lys” Coleman, Lindsey Garnhart, Enya-Kalia Jordan, and Mijka Smith with supplemental writing by Nicky Brown. The film and supplemental materials can be viewed now at https://allyoucaneat.online/
