Koresh Dance Company 5th Annual Come Together Dance Festival, Nov 14 – 18

Koresh Dance Company will once again unite over 40 dance innovators, audience favorites, and emerging artists this fall, in the 5th annual Come Together Dance Festival at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre in Philadelphia. The Festival, which began in 2013, celebrates the diversity, creativity, and technical excellence of Philadelphia’s dance community. From November 14-18, 5 mixed programs will stage an eclectic range of styles, juxtaposing genres from hip hop, tap, and jazz to ballet, modern, contemporary dance, acrobatic physical theatre, and Latin dance.

Koresh Dance Company aims to increase access to dance and awareness of the city’s rich movement cultures by assembling these diverse dance artists in a single festival – at no cost to the Festival’s dancers. This festival is the only one of its kind highlighting dance in Philadelphia.

Over 100 dance companies were either invited or applied to participate in the 2018 Come Together Dance Festival. The final roster of 44 companies (3 more than in 2017) includes internationally acclaimed companies Ballet Inc., Brian Sanders’ JUNK,  Koresh Dance Company, Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers, Paul Taylor 2, Pennsylvania Ballet, Peridance Contemporary Dance Company, Rennie Harris Puremovement, RIOULT Dance NY among others. The Festival will also feature up-and-coming choreographers, as well as talented young dancers from the Rock School for Dance Education.

Headlining both local established companies and emerging talent, the Festival has also been called a taste of “serious Philly flava” (The Dance Journal).  In 2017, the Festival attracted audiences from 14 states and from across the city of Philadelphia. It is anticipated that over 1,500 people will attend this year’s Festival.

This festival gives the opportunity for emerging dance companies and choreographers to share a stage with internationally hailed dance companies. This 5-day dance celebration provides all featured companies with a forum to interact with each other and the community with a goal of cross pollination of ideas and audiences.  In an effort to expand the touring opportunities of Philadelphia based dance companies, KDC hosts dance presenters who can provide touring opportunities, as well as providing professionally photography and high resolution video to provide invaluable archival and promotional materials at no cost to the performers. This achieves both short term goals, providing smaller Philadelphia dance companies the opportunity to receive professional production and audience-building support, and long term, building local talent to sustain the future art communities of Philadelphia.

The Come Together Dance Festival attracts support from foundations dedicated to artistic and cultural development. This year’s Festival is supported by The Dexter F. & Dorothy H. Baker Foundation.
