BECK EPOCH – Swinging, swimming, and swiveling, in an aerial dance on and above the Schuylkill River, July 15 & 16

BECK EPOCH art

BECK EPOCH is an aerial exploration of swinging, swimming, swiveling and suspension from Fairmount Park’s beautiful historic Strawberry Mansion Bridge that ascends above it the Schuylkill River. It takes place on Friday, July 15th and Saturday, July 16th at 7:30pm.

The performance builds on past INVISIBLE RIVER performances with new additions – dramatic fabric drops above the river, aerialists swinging high above the air, more dancers, and new apparatuses. The aerialists arrive by boat and use a single hammock to ascend into the air above the river. The gaze of the audience then moves upward with a dramatic fabric drop from 60 feet above while two aerialists in harnesses descend from the top of the bridge.

Alie Vidich, Founding Artistic Director is directing the choreography with Choreographer, Tatiana Hassan and aerialists, Christine Morano and Shannon Sexton. BECK EPOCH, literally “river era” speaks to Vidich’s six-year artistic exploration on the river, which began in 2010, and asks if this is the conclusion or will a new era begin?  Audiences can watch the performance on the river in a canoe or kayak. Boats are available to rent starting at $35/per boat. You can purchase your ticket online at www.invisibleriver.org. All boats must be purchased in advance!

Audiences may watch for free from the banks of the river at the Parking lot next to the Strawberry Mansion Bridge located just north of the St. Joseph’s University Boathouse at 2200 Kelly Drive, Philadelphia, PA.  The delectable and quintessentially Philadelphia ice cream company, Little Baby’s will be selling a special Schuylkill River ice cream and Chef X presents the color spectrum through organic food. To promote sustainable transportation, audiences are encouraged to bike to the event via the Schuylkill River Trail and leave their cars behind. Bike racks will be provided; car parking is extremely limited. There is no public transportation to the event, and it takes approximately 2 hours to walk there from City Hall.
