From Executive Producer Wim Wenders, the fascinating story of Argentine tango legends Juan Carlos Copes and Maria Nieves comes to life through stunning dance sequences and historic dramatizations.
Often referred to as the “Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire of Tango,” María Nieves and Juan Carlos Copes were instrumental in bringing Argentina’s national dance from the cafés of Buenos Aires to the international stage. Now separated and in their eighties, Nieves and Copes offer candid perspectives on their artistic and romantic partnership in this captivating documentary. In keeping with the fiery dance that brought them together, the relationship between Nieves and Copes was often tumultuous, and OUR LAST TANGO doesn’t hesitate to delve into the many ups and downs of their complicated history. Combining traditional documentary storytelling and beautifully staged recreations of some of Nieves and Copes’s most memorable dances, director German Kral conveys the stunning artistry and undeniable chemistry that made the pair so special. Culminating with the estranged couple reuniting onstage one last time, ONE LAST TANGO is a lovely tribute to the lasting artistic contributions they made together.
