Ballet 180 presents Tales from Brothers Grimm to finish the professional ballet company’s successful 2015/2016 Season. Company members transform into princesses, cats, a wish granting fish, frogs, and woodland fairies as magic spells come to life through a modern take on the classic stories of “Puss ‘n Boots”, “The Fisherman and His Wife”, “The Frog Prince”, and “Rumpelstiltskin”. Set to music ranging from classical piano by Chopin to fiery Spanish guitar by Rodrigo y Gabriella, these dance vignettes will delight both children and adults alike through the company’s fresh take on the standard story ballet. Custom-made costumes include golden fairy tutus, romantic princess gowns, medieval capes, and steam punk inspired pantaloons.

Ballet 180’s community outreach program, Move 360, will be featured during intermission, as children from the company’s outreach programs perform excerpts from “Little Red Riding Hood”. Move 360 outreach participants include children from Westtown Children’s Academy, Tredyffrin Library, Paoli Library and more to come. The Move 360 InCommunity program is an initiative that serves in local schools, after school programs, and early childhood education settings. Students are led through movement workshops introducing them to ballet vocabulary, movement explorations, choreography and much more depending on the student’s age and stage of development.

Ballet 180’s professional dancers have enjoyed connecting with the future generations of dance through the various educational and outreach initiatives that the company implemented this year. Audience members will be able to see the full continuum of the life of a dancer: from the start of a young dancer being introduced to dance for the first time through the company’s Move 360 programs, to the “budding ballerinas” of Ballet 180’s Training Company, to Ballet 180’s professional dancers who have made dance their career. Tales From Brothers Grimm is a celebration of the company’s collaborative efforts in bringing dance to the community, and the company is delighted to share this connection with the community through the final performance of the season.
