Temple University Department of Dance presents the premiere of Jennifer Weber/ Decadancetheatre’s, A Hollywood Classic, Friday and Saturday Oct 16 & 17 at 7:30PM, Conwell Dance Theater, 5th floor Conwell Hall, Corner of Broad & Montgomery, Philadelphia.
Inspired by the movie musical, “A Hollywood Classic” stars Skizzo Arnedillo and Rachel Guest as a modern day “Fred and Ginger” looking for love under the glamorous lights of Hollywood. Directed by Jennifer Weber, this narrative piece of dance theatre fuses hip hop with Broadway jazz in a celebration of two iconic American art forms. With projection design, costumes and greyscale makeup, the world of a black and white film comes to life on stage.
A Hollywood Classic, is the Dance Department’s 2015 Reflection:Response Choreographic Commission. The commission includes a cash award of $5,000, rehearsal space, and production support for the creation of a new work in Conwell Dance Theater. Past commission recipients include Laura Peterson, Charles O. Anderson, and Tatyana Tenenbaum.
Nominated for an “Outstanding Emerging Choreographer” New York Dance and Performance Award (Bessie) in 2014, Jennifer Weber has been creating dance theatre since 2004. As the artistic director and founder of theatrical hip-‐hop company, Decadancetheatre, Weber’s work has toured across the US, UK, Japan and France in venues such as Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, The Apollo, The Kennedy Center, London’s Southbank Center, The Everyman in Liverpool, New York City Center, San Francisco Hip-‐ Hop Dance Festival, and Bumbershoot in Seattle.
