NEWS: Temple U Dept. of Dance awards Jennifer Weber the 2015 Reflection/Response Commission


The Temple University Department of Dance announced that their third choreographic commission under the Reflection:Response speaker and performance series has been awarded to choreographer, Jennifer Weber

This new commission will premiere on October 16  and 17, 2015 in the Conwell Theater at Temple University. The commission includes a cash award of $5,000, access to rehearsal space throughout summer 2014, and production of the new work in Conwell Dance Theater.  Past commission recipients include Laura Peterson, Charles O. Anderson, and Tatyana Tenenbaum.

Jennifer Weber will be in residence in the Department of Dance this summer to create a theatrical hip hop work, with live DJ and video projections, that examines each dancer’s relationship to their movement on a variety of dance floors, from stage to battle. Students of the Temple University  Department of Dance will complete the cast.

Nominated for an  “Outstanding Emerging Choreographer” New York Dance and Performance Award (Bessie) in 2014,  Jennifer Weber has been creating dance theatre since 2004.  As the artistic director and founder of theatrical hip-hop company, Decadancetheatre, Weber’s work has toured across the US, UK, Japan and France in venues such as Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, The Apollo, The Kennedy Center, London’s Southbank Center, The Everyman in Liverpool, New York City Center, San Francisco Hip-Hop Dance Festival, and Bumbershoot in Seattle.  She has also choreographed for the NBA’s Miami Heat, American Express, Uber, Coty, L’Oreal Matrix, Reebok, Bloomberg, Philosophy, Marc Jacobs, CK1 and UK TV show, Blue Peter. Recently she choreographed the US Premier of Bryony Lavery’s Stockholm at Stageworks/Hudson, Trouble, A New Rock Musical at NYMF and was a contributing choreographer on Philadanco’s James Brown–Get On the Good Foot for The Apollo Theater/European Tour with director Otis Sallid.  Currently, Weber is the director and choreographer of The Hip Hop Nutcracker—an evening length work set to Tchaikovsky’s score, which will tour the US in the 2015 holiday season. Weber graduated Cum Laude from The University Of Pennsylvania and has been a visiting artist at numerous universities in the US and UK.
