Local Philadelphia artist, Amy Lynne Barr, choreographs and performs The Toss Away(s), a moving memoir told through a compilation of five solo contemporary dance performances. Performances take place Friday, January 23 at 8 PM and Saturday, January 24 at 8 PM at the Annenberg Center, 3680 Walnut Street, Philadelphia.

The Toss Away(s) consists of five solo pieces that were created by Amy Lynne Barr over the span of four years. She choreographed each piece as a way to process and deal with life’s questions, hardships and joys. The five solo pieces include: The Toss Away(s), Less, Constructions of More Light, Grate, and It’s All You. Together, they become a single, disjointed narrative. Through Barr’s work, the audience explores many aspects of what it really means to experience life: What is one capable of? What will one become? What is the meaning of all that surrounds us?

The Toss Away(s) is choreographed and performed by Anne Lynne Barr. It includes music by Jason Gregory, Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, Max Richter and Beethoven. Additional sound design is by Jason Gregory. Barr wrote all text.

Creating work that mixes humor, poignancy and extreme physicality, Amy Lynne Barr engages the audience viscerally with choreography that is intellectual in conception and creation. Barr is a Philadelphia-based choreographer and performer with an MFA in Choreography from the University of Iowa. She has been honored to work with Martha Clarke, Jennifer Kayle, Charlotte Adams, Doug Nielsen and many others. Barr’s work has been shown in Illinois, Indiana, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Chicago, New York, New Hampshire, Iowa, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. She directs SOS DanceProject and dances for Tori Lawrence & Co, Invisible River, The Naked Stark and ChrisMastersDance. Barr is an adjunct professor at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
