World Ballet Day Philly Style

by Brian Mengini for The Dance Journal

In a global first, World Ballet Day will show live, behind-the-scenes action from the rehearsal studios of five world-class ballet companies on 1 October 2014.
The Australian Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, The Royal Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada and San Francisco Ballet will each take the lead for a four-hour period, live streaming behind-the-scenes from their headquarters to offer a rare glimpse backstage.

Viewers will be able to interact with dancers, choreographers and coaches by asking questions throughout the day via social media. They will also be invited to submit a video of themselves performing a pirouette wherever they are in the world, which will form part of a montage celebrating the worldwide appeal of dance. Find out more about what’s happening on the day.

Many within the ballet community will be celebrating in their own way with a variety of different events and offerings, in addition to of course watching the live feed from the 5 companies.  So, we thought we would do something a bit different.  We are taking a different approach to celebrating World Ballet Day… Instead of the world celebrating the art form, we set out to have the dancers use the art form to celebrate the world, via Philadelphia!

We are celebrating the cultural diversity here in Philly through ballet images!  Here in Philly, we do love our arts but we also love our different heritages and there are quite a few restaurants who do well with helping maintain and promote their respective cultures!  Here are some images of just a few of those types of eateries!
