An Evening of Duets will take place this year at the Community Education Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 7 & 8, 2014 at 7:30pm. Created as a pre-Valentines performance, this event will highlight duets from the romantic to the volatile by innovative choreographers and their professional dance companies.
Curated and produced by Melissa Chisena, this year will feature eight different companies from Philadelphia and California. The performing companies and artists are Lauren Putty/Putty Dance Project, Beau Hancock, Scott McPheeters and Gina Hoch-Stoll, Adam Sterr, Kate Jordan and Bruno Augusto of Arts & Above, KC Chun-Manning/FRESH BLOOD, Stone Depot Dance Lab/Ellie Goudie- Averill, and Tara Madsen Robbins.
Tara Madsen Robbins will be returning this year presenting a new duet with Alicia Sehn. Ellie Goudie- Averill of Stone Depot Dance Lab and Rain Ross will be performing a duet with poet Laura Spagnoli. Ms. Spagnoli will be reading live from her book My Dazzledent Days. Beau Hancock revisits his “Lost Boys” duet and Scott McPheeters and Gina Hoch-Stoll collaborate on a new duet that examines the authenticity of how we communicate with others in a society where the need-to-please mentality is epidemic.
This event is pleased to welcome back former Philadelphia dancer Kate Jordan. Kate is now living and making work with her husband Bruno Augusto in Oakland, California and they are traveling across the US to perform for this event.
This year’s performance will be highlighting three collaborations between dancers and musicians. Former member of Milwaukee Ballet, Richmond Ballet and viola player Adam Sterr will be premiering a duet with Melissa Chisena. He will be playing the viola and dancing simultaneously as he partners Chisena. Philadanco dancer Lauren Putty White and her husband and trombone player Brent White will be collaborating on a light and comedic duet that has the dancer manipulating the musician with her movements. KC Chun-Manning and Jennifer Morley of FRESH BLOOD will close the evening with a comical duet involving the audience, grapes, live music and exciting dancing.
