Professional ballet company, BalletFleming, is pleased to announce its exciting upcoming 3rd season. They will be kicking off their 2012-2013 Season as a part of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, September 21-23, 2012. BalletFleming will be performing original choreography, Dancing in the Streets, by Christopher Fleming, BalletFleming’s Artistic Director and Choreographer. Performances are being held on Friday, September 21st and Sunday, September 23rd at the Painted Bride Art Center in Philadelphia.

The 2012-2013 Season will also include the return of the popular and successful ballet, The Myth and the Madness of Edgar Allan Poe, most recently performed at the Mandel Theatre on the Drexel University Campus. The performances included a Poe Symposium and dinner hosted by the Dean of Drexel University. Philadelphia Dance Journal’s review of Poe stated, “If you don’t have BalletFleming on your radar, please adjust your priorities.” And Karl Schaffenburg, Supervisor of Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site in Philly, said in a letter to BalletFleming, “Not only do I supervise the Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site in Philadelphia, but both of my parents were professional ballet dancers, and my father was a choreographer as well. They taught me enough to recognize an outstanding ballet company when I see one. Philadelphia is very fortunate to have such a company in the form of BalletFleming.” The Poe ballet is scheduled to be performed at the Gloucester County College in Sewell, NJ on Friday, October 26th and Saturday, October 27th.

As a part of the company’s touring component, BalletFleming will once again be returning to Tampa, Florida to perform the ballet, Gaspar-A Pirate Fantasy at the Straz Performing Arts Centre in January of 2013. Back in February of 1994,Tampa’s Sanchez Family Foundation and BalletFleming, began their partnership by creating the Gaspar Productions Foundation, Inc., a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization in Florida. Gaspar-A Pirate Fantasy, a swashbuckling ballet, depicts the story of Captain Jose Gaspar and coincides with Tampa Bay’s annual Gasparilla festivities. Gaspar benefits Tampa Bay area non-profit organizations including the Tampa Bay Chapter of the American Red Cross, YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg, and Drew’s Shoes, a charity dedicated to providing dance shoes for underprivileged children.

If you haven’t seen BalletFleming yet, they are inviting the public to attend the final performance of the 2011-2012 In-Studio Showing Series, Sunday, May 20th, 2PM-3PM at their studios located at 1802 S. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA. It is part of a series of casual meet-n-greets held throughout the season.

BalletFleming was established here in Philadelphia in 2010, by former New York City Ballet dancer and choreographer, Christopher Fleming. The professional ballet company was created to inspire, engage, entertain and educate the public through the works of its Artistic Director, Christopher Fleming. BalletFleming is guided by this purpose in its performances, teaching, outreach activities and commitment to the community. In creating works by choreographer, writer and director Christopher Fleming, the company will explore innovative approaches to storytelling, musical theatre and symphonic expositions.
