The Brandywine Ballet is proud to announce its spring production Colour Brillanté to take place Mother’s Day Weekend, May 8 & 9, 7:30 p.m. in the Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall, Philips Memorial Building at West Chester University. Colour Brillanté is an evening of mixed repertory dance including four works  two pieces by Brandywine Ballet’s Resident Choreographer Nancy Page, and two world premieres by Philadelphia-based choreographers Eric Bean and Meredith Rainey.

A powerhouse of large ensemble work, Romanesque sets, and vivid attire, Nancy Page’s title piece Colour Brillanté is a celebration of Mother’s Day and the many blooming colors of spring. In addition to its impressive cast size, Colour Brillanté is also an opportunity to see Brandywine Ballet principal dancers in breathtaking solos and pas de deux. Previous performances of Colour Brillanté have exhibited the seemingly effortless ability of the Brandywine Ballet to uplift and inspire long after the curtains close. Featuring the powerful music of Antonin Dvorak, Colour Brillanté is clearly the worthy pinnacle to a superb season. Ms. Page will also present a shorter work Now We Are Free.

The Koresh Dance Company has gained international acclaim for its exciting and emotional blend of ballet, modern and jazz, molded into a style of choreography that is both eloquent and explosive. Koresh first collaborated with Brandywine Ballet last spring, debuting Artistic Director Ronen Koresh’s Beyond the Steps. That performance earned Brandywine Ballet a nod in national publication Dance Magazine, as well as regional press coverage in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Weekly, and Mainline Today. This spring, Koresh Company dancer Eric Bean will set a world premiere on Brandywine Ballet dancers. Entitled Speak Easy, featuring the music of Ella Fitzgerald and Vivian Green, the piece combines elements of jazz and swing to explore the fun and playful nature of the dances in the night clubs of the 1940’s and 50’s.

Also on the program will be a highly anticipated world premiere by Meredith Rainey, former soloist with the Pennsylvania Ballet. For past choreography, Mr. Rainey has been the recipient of the 1995 & 2002 PA Council on the Arts Fellowship Grant for Choreography, the 2001 Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation Artist as Catalyst Grant, the 2002 Independence Foundation Fellowship in the Arts, and a 2003 Pew Fellowship in the Arts Finalist. He recently returned from touring South Korea with Ballet X – a Philadelphia based company committed to expanding the vocabulary of classical dance. Set to a string quartet by Kevin Volan, Mr. Rainey’s piece with Brandywine Ballet features stark lighting and costumes of mocha, tan, and grey, emulating the color scheme of the winter trees in Chester County.

Founded in 1979 by Artistic Director Donna Muzio, the Brandywine Ballet is a non-profit dance company based in West Chester, PA. Brandywine Ballet features 45 area dancers that are members of either the Brandywine Ballet Theatre (BBT), a professional ensemble, or the Brandywine Ballet Company (BBC), a student-based, pre-professional ensemble. Several members of BBT enroll in a joint Certificate in Ballet program with West Chester University, pursuing an academic curriculum of their choice while remaining active in Brandywine Ballet performances. Several Brandywine Ballet dancers have gone onto perform with major companies such as Joffrey Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet, and Miami City Ballet.

All shows to be held in the Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall, Philips Memorial Building on the campus of West Chester University. Tickets are $20, $25 and $35. To purchase tickets visit http://www.brandywineballet.com or call the box office at (610) 696-2711.
