Nora Gibson Performance Project

Nora Gibson Performance Project is dedicated to presenting contemporary dance as a unique visual experience. Themes explored are socially relevant and reveal the poetry in the everyday. NGPP’s current body of work delves into the conundrum of white-collar professionals in America: the trade-offs between high-performance achievement and personal sacrifice.

Nora Gibson is a Philadelphia based dancer and choreographer, whose training spans classical ballet to post-modern improvisation. Early training included attending Baltimore School for the Arts, acceptance to ballet residencies with Jean-Pierre Bonnefous of NYCB and at Chautauqua. She later graduated with a BFA from Tisch, at NYU, where she had the opportunity to perform in the works of Elisa Monte and Mark Morris. Nora studied improvisational forms with Daniel Lepkoff, Andrew Harwood, Nancy Stark-Smith, and KJ Holmes.  Nora has had the privilege of dancing for PATH Dance Company in Baltimore, MD under the direction of Kathy Wildberger, and for Andrew Marcus in New York, NY. She currently dances for ClancyWorks Dance Company in D.C., and with Jeffrey Gunshol, formerly of Mark Dendy Dance. Nora has performed her own work throughout Philadelphia and in NYC at various downtown venues such as P.S. 122, St. Marks Church, and DIA Center for the Arts. In 2008, she established Nora Gibson Performance Project, with Philadelphia as its home base. NGPP was an artist in residence at Mascher Arts Space Co-op from Oct. ’08 to March ’09, and was awarded a 2009-10 Artist in Residence with the nEW Festival in Philadelphia under the direction of Melanie Stewart.
