About the Company

Allegory Dance Theatre is a multi-discipline, dance company located in the South Jersey/ Philadelphia metro area. Through dance and theatre they aim to produce high quality work that tells a story. These stories can be as complex as life, as reminiscent as a place in time, as transcendent as a smell or word, and as limitless as the human imagination. Allegory was created by Jennifer Gordon with the intention to make dance more accessible and meaningful to audiences. The company’s choreography draws upon Mrs. Gordon’s own experiences and from many literary works. From childhood summers, shipping off to war, brain surgery induced dreams, the Andrews Sisters, classical masterpieces, Metallica, and more, Allegory Dance Theatre has something for everyone.

Allegory is committed to having a positive impact on our stage, in our rehearsal spaces, and within our community. We continue to educate ourselves and take the necessary action to provide a safe and nurturing environment that fosters the growth of others. Knowing that dance is for every BODY, we are excited to work with movers of all kinds that are dedicated to personal excellence and building a better art community. We also recognize the incredible benefits that dancing has to offer and share those through our dance for dementia program, Hope Dances.

As the company continues to write their story they are in the process of filing for 501(c)3 status, they plan to incorporate audience immersing technology into their performances, create educational programs for local schools and communities, and collaborate with local artists and musicians to build a strong arts community in Southern New Jersey.
