Philly Dance Class Share – Katie Vickers
May 24 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Sense-Making Dance is a technique class that approaches contemporary movement and modalities as a way to understand what the body is producing and how we think when we think about moving. We focus on attention, sensing, and seeing to understand relationships in the body and in space. In itself, dancing is a practice of mobile relationships. We hone into what relation- ships are known to us as movers, and how to create new ways of thinking and seeing dance. I use the term “sense-making” in the class as a means to bring closer the nuances and intimate relationships in dancing. How do we make sense of what we are doing while dancing? What is being produced in the body and how does our thinking, seeing and experiencing change what is being seen and felt in real time? How does this awareness change our perception and perspective? These questions guide us in understanding that the dancing body is a thinking body.
