KYLD Summer Workshop – Butoh with Shizu Homma
July 27 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
An event every day that begins at 10:00 am, repeating until July 30, 2021
This summer train alongside our company artists by enrolling in one of our summer workshops series catered for the pre-professional and professional dancer! These workshops are held Tuesday through Friday and focus on a specific technique to strengthen and develop you further as a moving artist. Register for the entire series or check it out with a purchase of a single drop-in class.
Each day, we will prepare the body and mind to dance with a Noguchi exercise and Bodyweather informed warm up. Then we will explore approaches to dance, including imagery work/structured improvisation, and performance techniques. In this workshop, I will share methods that I learned studying with Butoh masters and dancing in butoh or butoh influenced companies. Some teachers include: Ko Muroboshi, Atsushi Takenouchi, Yuko Kaseki, and Akira Kasai. Some whom I danced for: Tilt Performance (Catherine Hourihan), Butoh Rockettes (Celeste Hastings), Corinna Brown, Kristin Narcowich, Moeno Wakamatsu, and Evelyn Dann. The class varies from strenuous to gentle, and it is recommended that participants wear layers. If you would like, bring notebooks and kneepads.
