A workshop in gaming, improvisation, and ensemble. Led by Rosanna Gamson/World Wide (Los Angeles). Hosted by Almanac Dance Circus Theatre (PHL).
GO is a physically and mentally demanding practice that sparks movement invention, builds listening skills, and can be used by choreographers, performers, and directors to generate group-authored performances. Each GO workshop is specifically tailored to its participant’s needs, allowing significant progress to be made in a short amount of time. GO workshops have been attended in Mexico City, Panamá City, Berlin, Lodz, and Los Angeles for dancers, choreographers, actors, and directors since 2017.
ROSANNA GAMSON studied composition with Hanya Holm, Bessie Schonberg, and Phyllis Lamhut and earned an MFA in Dance from NYU Tisch under the chairmanship of Lawrence Rhodes. She’s performed internationally as a member of Andrew DeGroat & Dancers and in works by Yvonne Rainer and Robert Wilson. Gamson is Assistant Dean and teaches composition at CalArts at the Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance.
ALMANAC is a movement-based performing arts ensemble, fusing acrobatics, storytelling, dance, and physicality. We believe in the artful sharing of stories and the creation of original work through unique methods of ensemble practice. Together we create thrill and heartbreak from where we are and where we want to go. We are light and generous, sincere and direct, dynamic and poetic. We are more concerned with meaning and transmission than we are with the pretty, the perfect, or the precious.
