Where costume party and anthropology meet, Nuptial Blitz by award-winning choreographer Gabrielle Revlock, is an interactive performance that explores the visual tropes and clichés of contemporary wedding photography. Sourcing images from social media, weaving it with personal narrative and optional audience engagement, the result is a relatable, provocative, and joyful experience for all.
Each night, five audience members will be invited backstage where they’ll be offered a drink, have their pick of fabulous costumes, and then join the artist onstage for a stylized photo shoot, posing as her partner. Wedding photography is glossy, rooted in fantasy and frequently gendered. How might we democratize the image of love by embodying these shapes and gestures with people other than our romantic partner/soul mate? Nuptial Blitz is a safe space to metaphorically and literally try something on including touch and tenderness with a stranger.
The Nuptial Blitz project has already generated thousands of images of Revlock with past volunteers/beloveds. You are invited to be a part of this unique ritual. Join in on the fun at the MAAS Building or tune in virtually, and don’t forget to follow the photo series as it unfolds on her Instagram.
