Travel into a “poetic realm of the imagination” (The New York Times) with the return of Sunset, o639 Hours!
Praised by The Philadelphia Inquirer as “one of the finest works created in the company’s first decade,” this full-length ballet interprets the dramatic true story of aviation pioneer Captain Edwin Musick’s fateful 1938 airmail flight across the Pacific in a story of love, loss, and adventure. With live, original music, Sunset immerses audiences in the world of the South Pacific as it weaves together original 1930s-inspired songs, field tapes, and archival recordings. Brilliant lighting design by Drew Billiau, timeless costumes by Christine Darch, and enthralling sound design by Nick Kourtides complement inventive sets by Maiko Matsushima that transport you to another time and place. Hailed as “a testament to human connection” (The Huffington Post), Sunset, o639 Hours is a journey you won’t want to miss.
Originally premiered on BalletX in 2014, Sunset, o639 Hours was choreographed by Matthew Neenan and composed by Rosie Langabeer, Andrew Mars, Josh Machiz, and Isaac Stanford, with lighting design by Drew Billiau, costume design by Christine Darch, set design by Maiko Matsushima, sound design by Nick Kourtides, and instruments invented by Neil Feather. Musicians Alexandra Day, Josh Machiz, Tara Middleton, and Isaac Stanford will join the dancers live on stage to perform the original composition for Fall Series 2021.
