Philadelphia, PA – PIMA Group will present a one-night only performance of breathshudderbody on Saturday February 11th, 2017 at 8pm. Their innovative blend of dance, live music and video performance will be presented at the James Oliver Gallery located at 723 Chestnut Street, 4th Floor in downtown Philadelphia. Conceived and directed by PIMA Group’s Artistic Director and Co-Founder, Melisa Clark, breathshudderbody is performed by dancers Sarena Kabakoff, Dawn Ann Perez and Melisa Clark. Live music will be performed by Thomas Clark, PIMA Group Co-Founder, with video text projections by Melisa Clark.
Using movement and video text projections, bodies and words reveal the artists as subject in a subtle and personal approach to dance-making. Excerpts from the dancers’ rehearsal journals are written into Haiku poems that are used as part of video text projections. This language, exquisitely nuanced, is then layered with the moving body. The collage of word and body creates both spatial and narrative gaps. Within these moments, the audience has space for their imagination to flow forth, to extend beyond what is seen.
This is the first presenting collaboration between PIMA Group and James Oliver Gallery. The gallery, with its white walls, white painted wood floors and beautifully arched windows, will offer a blank canvas for PIMA Group’s performance in between art shows. The performance of breathshudderbody is an ongoing artistic research process which began during an artist residency at the Iron Factory in 2015-2016 and is a part of a continuing series of performances intended for intimate settings.
Tickets are $10, available online at Brown Paper Tickets (pimagroup.brownpapertickets.com). The gallery is located on the 4th floor and is walk-up only. In the event of inclement weather, the performance will be re-scheduled for Saturday February 18th, 2017. Information will be posted on both websites for PIMA Group (www.pimagroup.org) and James Oliver Gallery (www.jamesolivergallery.com).
PIMA Group will be performing a teaser of breathshudderbody on Saturday February 4th, 2017 between 6-9pm. This will be during the closing of artist Ana Vizcarra Rankin art show at James Oliver Gallery. Exact performance time for this event is TBD. Please check both websites for updated information.
