Audition Seeking MALE dancers-movers for the inaugural production of a new physical THEATER company
Please read entire audition notice. Thank you.
Puer Aeternus is a professional theater company still in its formative stages. Its inaugural production will premiere in a three-week run this coming March 2018.
Although not a dance company, Puer Aeternus is rooted in a physical/movement-based approach to theater. As such, the company is seeking creative and expressive movers from the dance community, in addition to actors trained in physical theater disciplines.
All parts are speaking and, more specifically, require the ability to memorize and speak passages from classical texts (e.g., Greek tragedy and Shakespeare).
WHEN: Wednesday, November 8th, from 6:30 to 9:30 PM. ALL AUDITIONEES MUST BE PRESENT FOR THE FULL 3 HOURS. If you absolutely cannot make this audition time but are strongly interested in this opportunity, then please register your interest by responding to this notice and we may contact you to make alternative arrangements.
WHERE: South Philadelphia/Italian Market area. The address will be sent in an email confirming receipt of your request to audition.
WHEN: Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 to 9:30 PM. Sundays (early evening) will likely be added beginning in January 2018.
In this early stage of the rehearsal period, however, you will ONLY NEED TO ATTEND ONE REHEARSAL PER WEEK for the months of November and December. Beginning in January, however, you will be required to attend two rehearsals per week.
WHERE: Same rehearsal studio as audition location.
WHEN: March 2018. Tech & dress: March 1-13; Performances: March 14-31 (Wednesday through Sunday performance schedule; Sunday matinee only.)
WHERE: The theater at the Latvian Society (531 N. 7th Street @ Spring Garden), in Northern Liberties.
IMPORTANT FACTORS TO WEIGH before deciding whether to audition:
- The nature of the movement/choreography will NOT be in the form of any specific dance technique or style. This project is best suited to dancers looking to explore intersections between theater and the expressive body, as opposed to pure dance.
- The company’s inaugural production requires FULL nudity (at various points in the show) by ALL performers. Nudity will NOT, however, be a part of the audition. The nudity will be phased into the rehearsal process over time. The nature of the nudity is completely NON-sexual and communicates NO social relationships or intimacy; there are no interpersonal relationships explored in the piece. Rather, the nudity is in communication of a primal, mythical-mystical dimension…think archetypes rather than characters. One’s sexual orientation is entirely irrelevant to this process and of no interest to me. Similarly, your looks are entirely irrelevant; this is not a model call. Bottom line: you must be fully comfortable being nude in the context of professional theater making and performance.
How to ApplyPlease email headshot and resume to email@example.com. Although not required, please feel free to include a brief statement explaining why you are interested in exploring a movement-based theater project. Thank you for taking the time to read this post and for your interest in auditioning.
