The Philadelphia dance community celebrates its 08-09 season and pays tribute to ten companies or individuals in the annual peer-to-peer awards event known as the ROCKYS . Unlike other awards that have a panel of judges or votes by the public, each 2008 recipient has the honor of bestowing a 2009 ROCKY.  Hosted by Jaamil Kosoko and Megan Mazarik as J-Luv and Dixie Crystal, the event included performances and videos.

The 2009 Rocky Award receipients were…

Nichole Canuso for Wandering Alice. Awarded by Matthew Neenan.

Makoto Hirano for his performance in Wandering Alice and his new Solo Work. Awarded by Karl Schappell.

Bethany Formica for Factor T. Awarded by Marianela Boan.

Jamie Merwin /olive Dance Theater for Their Home Season at the Wilma. Awarded by Merian Soto.

Robert Burden for his work with Chocolate Wireworks and Tap Team 2 & Company. Awarded by Jaye Allison.

Mark Caserta for his performance in Eleone Dance Theater’s Ovations. Awarded by Tracy Vogt, presented by Shawn-Lamere Williams.

Melanie Stewart for nEW Festival. Awarded by hosts Jaamil Kosoko and Megan Mazarick.
