by Juan Irizarry, Philadelphia Dance Photo Project
Recently had the opportunity to work with Viktoriya Tverskaya a young dancer from the Philadelphia region. Besides her beauty and dancing talents Viktorya is quite an accomplished young lady. Today I want to feature some of those photos we created together for the Project.
Viktoriya began dancing at the age of three, training in many different styles of dance, including ballet, jazz, and hip hop. She performed with local studios throughout the Tri-State area for the next 4 years. At seven years old Viktoriya was introduced to ballroom dancing, winning her first junior title at the age of eight at the Manhattan Amateur Classic. She has been competing in Amateur/Amateur and Pro/Am ever since and has gone on to win many titles including the 2009 Manhattan Pro/Am Youth Latin Chamption, the 2012 Yankee Classic Pro/Am Rhythm Champion and 2012 Manhattan Dancesport Pro/Am Rhythm Champion, dancing with Ilya Reyzin. In most recent years Viktoriya was featured on FOX’s hit show So You Think You Can Dance, season 9 and 10, placing within the top 20 girls each season. This experience allowed her to work with incredibly renounced choreographers such as Stacey Tookey, Travis Wall, Jason GilKison, Sonya Tayeh, Tyce Dioro, and many more.
Viktoriya will be graduating in May of 2015 with a BBA from Temple University in Philadelphia. She plans to continue and expand her dance education as she enters the work force next year. In addition, she continues to teach up and coming dancers in the Philadelphia and Bucks County area.
