Jan 31st, 2012 | By | Category: Archived Articles

Philadelphia-based contemporary modern dance company Danse4Nia Repertory Ensemble will host their second bi-annual benefit concert, DANSE 4 THE CURE at Conwell Dance Theatre (Temple University Main Campus)  on  Sunday, February 19th 2012 at 5:00p.m. The evening will include performances by Danse4Nia, Carbon Dance Theatre, Eng A. Matthews (of Eng & Friends) and Diane Critchlow (of Incite Artistry!) to raise funds in support of this year’s honoree, the Philadelphia Tri-State Chapter of The Lupus Foundation of America (LFA).

DANSE 4 THE CURE was initially conceived by Antoinette M. Coward-Gilmore, Founder CEO and Executive Director of Danse4Nia Repertory Ensemble,  as a  way to raise consciousness around health and social issues that negatively impact African-American communities and  the lives of Black women in particular. For the inaugural benefit concert in 2010, proceeds benefited the education, prevention and awareness programs of BEBASHI, a Philadelphia-based HIV/AIDS service organization.  In 2012, $500 of the evening’s proceeds will support the local programming and outreach initiatives of the local LFA chapter.

Founded in April 2006, Danse4Nia Repertory Ensemble is a Philadelphia-based, multicultural, contemporary modern dance company.  Committed to using dance to foster personal, cultural and social change, Danse4Nia’s mission is to educate, empower and create the next generation of well-rounded arts advocates and citizens by presenting exceptional dance works, collaborating with artists across genres and delivering high-impact residencies. Annually, Danse4Nia produces culturally informed and socially conscious performances that empower audiences and change lives. Serving the community through artist-in-residency programs, workshops, lecture demonstrations and apprenticeship programs for youth between the ages of 12 to 21, Danse4Nia builds the next generation of artists.

  1. This looks like a great event and a great cause. Just as a heads up, Susan Komen foundation has begun sueing organizations that use the phrase ‘for the curek. They are going after very smll community groups such as yours. The legal fees that these small organization encounter usually put them under. I truly do not mean to rain on your parade, just want to give you the very realistic news. Try googling the issue, there have been many articles written that may help inform you.
