The Arts Community Marches on Broad Street Against Planned Pennsylvania Arts Tax

Several hundred people turned out this Friday for a lunchtime rally and march along the Avenue of the Arts in center city Philadelphia, protesting the Pennsylvania state budget plan, which call for an eight-percent sales tax on tickets to certainĀ arts and entertainment venues, museums, live stage shows and even zoos.
State senators Daylin Leach, Larry Farnese and Mike StackĀ were on hand and climbed onto a ledge near a subway entrance at Broad and Walnut Streets to address the crowd’s concerns.
This new cultural tax is not being imposed on movies or sporting events, which could generate greater revenue potential. Essentially non-profits, which have always struggled, are now at an even greater competitive disadvantage.
